STOYLINE

Deep and high in the Bulgarian Rila mountain a yearly ceremony is taking place to commemorate the passing of the summer season and beginning of White Brotherhood’s new year on August 19.

Every year several thousands members of the White Brotherhood gather to mark their New Year which falls on August, 19, as they follow the movement, founded by Bulgarian Petar Deunov, a synthesis of Christianity and Hinduism with a heavy emphasis on brotherly love, a healthy diet and living in harmony with nature.

The event organised by the White Brotherhood sect, also called Beinsa Duno.

Founded by Petar Deunov, the sect's beliefs are based on a new interpretation of traditional Christian doctrines and man's interaction with the physical world.

Worshippers also attribute spiritual powers to the mountain.

As the sun rises on the mountain range, bleary eyed members of the sect begin their ceremonies by singing religious songs.
