Bulgarian farmer family burn a pig during a traditional pig slaughter it the village of Doliste east of the Bulgarian capital Sofia, Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008. The pig slaughter is a very long tradition in the Balkan country, that enables thousands of households to ensure meat and meat products over the winter for the families. Usually the pig was fattened up for a year from January to November or December and then the pig had to be killed on a cold day to ensure the best conservation of the meat.
